Mamta Rodrigues

Senior Vice President of
Networks and Strategic Partnerships

Mamta Rodrigues is Senior Vice President at Synchrony Financial. In this role, she heads up the network relationships and key payments strategic partnerships. Mamta is also a leader in Synchrony Financial's innovation initiatives, partnering with the marketing and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions for our clients and partners in the rapidly evolving payments landscape/environment.

Prior to joining Synchrony Financial, Mamta had two roles at Visa Inc. Most recently, she was part of the Innovations & Strategic Partnerships team and was a key member in growing Visa’s innovation agenda globally. Prior to that, Mamta was Head of Solutions and Partnerships at Visa and was responsible for managing Visa’s digital payments solutions in emerging markets.

This included leading the company’s efforts in extending mobile financial and prepaid services to unbanked consumers, identifying innovative solutions and needs in the emerging markets, and managing partnerships with key stakeholders in the multilateral, government and NGO community. Her goals drove financial inclusion by largely creating payment solutions for the unbanked consumer. In her efforts, Mamta worked to develop the full payment ecosystem (acceptance, savings, usage) which ultimately creates use-cases for electronic payments, empowers the consumer and gains their trust to switch from cash to digital solutions.

Prior to Visa, Mamta worked at MasterCard Worldwide in a similar role where she drove government payments from check and cash to Prepaid and also led the financial inclusion efforts for the company. Before joining MasterCard, Mamta worked for several years in various roles at American Express.

Prior to American Express, Mamta worked at NYU Stern and founded Stern Consulting Corps, the Mentorship program, and several other Strategic Initiatives at the Stern School which now are a pillar at the school under the Center for Strategic Initiatives. Mamta started her career as a financial analyst in the Financial Development Program at Digital Equipment Corporation. Mamta has lived and worked in several countries.

Mamta has an undergraduate degree in Economics and Mathematics from Boston University and an MBA from Stern, New York University. She is a guest lecturer at NYU Stern School of Business, a familiar speaker at the US Treasury and at events such as Obama’s African Summit, CARTES, and Columbia Business School Digital Financial Services & Emerging Payments Summit, amongst others. Mamta also is a Member of the International Advisory Group for Government Payments (part of the World Bank); a body of 20+ Government Treasury departments and private sector institutions globally developing recommendations for governments on electronic payments (distributed to all Central Banks in 2012) and helping consumers enter financial services.
